Land's End Observatory, Historical observatory on Grand Mesa rim, Colorado

Land's End Observatory features walls and terraces constructed from local basalt stones, with hand-sawn wood shingles covering the roof structure.

The United States Forest Service and Works Progress Administration constructed the observatory between 1936 and 1937, with support from Civilian Conservation Corps camps.

The observatory represents the achievements of World War I veterans who built Land's End Road during the Great Depression for one dollar per day.

Visitors can access the observatory via Grand Mesa Scenic Byway, turning onto Land's End Road, located 10 miles west of Colorado State Highway 65.

The observatory sits at 10,500 feet elevation, offering views across western Colorado and eastern Utah, although the main building remains closed.
