James A. Walker established the ranch in 1865, constructing a log cabin before expanding the property with a new residence in 1881.
The property contains five archaeological sites, including three aboriginal settlements and two Arapahoe locations, representing different periods of human occupation.
Boulder County Parks and Open Space maintains the trails and facilities, allowing visitors to explore the historic structures and natural landscapes.
The ranch operated a cyanide mill for gold extraction, with fourteen buildings dedicated to this mining operation still remaining on the property.
