Timber Creek Campground

Timber Creek Campground is a camping facility on the western side of Rocky Mountain National Park at roughly 8900 feet in elevation. The site offers both tent camping areas and spaces for recreational vehicles, though without utility hookups.

The camping area experienced major changes following a mountain pine beetle outbreak in the early 2000s that significantly altered the surrounding forest. This ecological shift continued to shape the landscape over the following years.

The location serves as a gateway to numerous hiking trails where visitors observe local wildlife including elk, moose, and various bird species.

The location sits at higher elevation where temperatures can drop significantly, particularly during evening hours and shoulder seasons. Visitors should bring warm clothing and be prepared for variable weather conditions.

Each camping spot features bear-proof food storage boxes designed to protect both campers and local wildlife from conflicts. The Colorado River runs close to the western boundary of the grounds, creating a water feature that many visitors seek out.
