South Arapahoe County, Former county region in Colorado, United States
South Arapahoe County was a former administrative region in eastern Colorado that included several communities, with Littleton serving as its county seat. The territory covered a substantial land area across that part of Colorado.
Colorado General Assembly created South Arapahoe County on November 15, 1902, by dividing the original Arapahoe County into three separate districts. The new boundaries formed a short-lived administrative framework for the region.
The name comes from the Arapaho people, who lived and shaped this region for centuries before European settlement arrived.
Since this district no longer exists, visitors can explore its historical boundaries today only through maps and records. Littleton remains the key reference point for understanding where this former administrative area was located.
This district existed for less than six months before being renamed to Arapahoe County in 1903. Its extremely brief existence makes it a remarkable footnote in Colorado's administrative history.
