Casper Mountain

Casper Mountain is a mountain range that rises roughly 3,000 feet above the surrounding city and features dense forests, rocky formations, and multiple recreation areas. The mountain holds a ski area, Nordic trails, camping grounds, an archery range, and pavilions, all connected by extensive pathways for hiking and biking.

Archaeological evidence shows that people lived in this region about 11,000 years ago, leaving behind tools and artifacts. Items found from between 4500 and 2500 BC reveal that the area was an important place for tool-making and human activity.

The Beartrap Summer Festival brings bluegrass musicians to Beartrap Meadow each year, creating a gathering place for people throughout the region. The event has become a regular meeting point where locals and visitors enjoy live music together.

The mountain is easy to reach from the city and offers activities year-round, with winter sports in cooler months and hiking trails for warmer seasons. Visitors should bring layered clothing and plenty of water, as conditions change with elevation and weather shifts quickly in the mountains.

Jackson Canyon on the western side hosts one of North America's largest wintering populations of bald eagles that migrate there each year. The seasonal arrival of these birds creates a remarkable sight for those who visit during colder months.
