Torrington

Torrington is a city in Goshen County located in eastern Wyoming along a river running through agricultural country. The city sits at an elevation of 1,251 meters (4,105 feet) and is surrounded by grazing lands and farms that define the landscape.

The city was founded in 1900 by W.G. Curtis, who named it after his hometown in Connecticut and established it as a watering and coal supply stop for the CB&Q Railroad. This role allowed it to grow into a permanent settlement in the region.

The Homesteaders Museum displays settler history through exhibits featuring early automobiles, period artifacts, and a reconstructed one-room schoolhouse that shows how residents lived. These displays help visitors understand the daily life of the people who first developed this area.

A livestock auction venue draws cattle sellers and buyers from multiple states throughout the year and serves as an important trade center for the region. Visitors should check when market events occur to understand local commerce and activity.
