Lake Minatare Lighthouse, Observation tower at Lake Minatare, Nebraska, US

Lake Minatare Lighthouse is a conical stone structure standing about 55 feet tall beside the lake, serving as both a shelter and viewing platform. The tower allows visitors to survey the water and surrounding landscape from an elevated vantage point.

The Veterans Conservation Corps built this structure in 1939 as part of recreational development projects during the Great Depression era. This initiative helped expand public recreation areas throughout the region.

This structure represents one of seven inland lighthouses in the United States, marking a distinctive architectural feature in the Nebraska landscape.

Access requires a Nebraska State Park Permit, and the site closes from October through January to protect migratory birds. Plan your visit outside these closure dates and obtain permits in advance.

Despite its name, this structure contains no working light mechanism and was designed as a shelter rather than an active beacon. Today it serves visitors as a viewing spot for observing the North Platte National Wildlife Refuge.
