Magic Reservoir, body of water
Magic Reservoir is a large body of water in Idaho's open landscape, located about 18 miles north of Shoshone. Several campsites surround it, including Lava Creek, Lava Cove, West Magic, Myrtle Point, and Magic Dam, offering spaces for tents and recreational vehicles.
Magic Reservoir has been managed by the Bureau of Land Management for many years. The area developed into a key recreation spot for local people and visitors from the surrounding region.
Magic Reservoir gets its name from the natural appeal of the landscape that draws visitors to the area. The place is used by people who come to fish, boat, and ice fish in winter while staying connected to the natural surroundings.
The reservoir is easily reached via State Route 75, approximately 5 miles southwest of the highway junction. Visitors should arrive early, especially on weekends and holidays, to find a good spot and enjoy optimal conditions.
The water freezes solid during the cold winter months, enabling popular ice fishing as a seasonal activity few outside Idaho experience. This winter transformation creates a completely different experience from the summer water sports that otherwise dominate.
