Idaho Panhandle National Forests, Protected forest area in northern Idaho, United States.
The Idaho Panhandle National Forests extend across 2.5 million acres, containing numerous lakes, rivers, and mountain ranges with elevations from 2,100 to 7,600 feet.
In 1973, the forest administration merged major sections of Kaniksu, Coeur d'Alene, and St. Joe National Forests to establish the current management structure.
Native American tribes, including the Coeur d'Alene people, maintain strong connections to these lands through traditional practices and environmental stewardship programs.
The forest network maintains over 1,400 miles of hiking trails and 800 miles of ATV paths, with multiple ranger stations providing visitor information throughout the region.
The Emerald Creek Garnet Area within the forest allows visitors to collect star garnets, minerals found in only two locations worldwide.
