Century Downs Racetrack and Casino, Horse racing venue and gaming complex in Balzac, Canada
Century Downs Racetrack and Casino is a horse racing and gaming facility in Balzac, Alberta, built around a one-mile oval track for standardbred harness racing and a casino floor with slot machines and electronic gaming tables. Spectator seating and a restaurant on site allow visitors to watch races from inside or outside the building.
Century Downs opened in 2015 as the first facility to bring standardbred harness racing and casino gaming together in the Balzac area, north of Calgary. It was part of a broader commercial development in the region at that time.
On racing days, families and friends gather in the stands to watch the horses run the track. The mix of racing and gaming draws people who may never have attended a harness race before.
The complex sits close to Highway 2 and is easiest to reach by car, with large parking areas on site. Wheelchair access is available throughout, and the racing and gaming sections are laid out in a way that makes orientation easy.
The Homestretch Bar is inside the casino building but has large windows that look directly onto the racetrack outside. This means you can follow a race without stepping outdoors, which is a welcome detail in the cold Alberta winters.
