The OTO Ranch features multiple preserved buildings with rubblestone foundations and unfinished log walls, situated beneath the Absaroka Mountains along Cedar Creek.
The property began in 1898 when Dick and Dora Randall purchased squatters rights, transforming a simple cabin into the first dude ranch in Montana.
The ranch introduced Eastern visitors to Western lifestyle through activities like horseback riding, ranch work, and outdoor mountain experiences from 1912 to 1934.
The United States Forest Service maintains the site, which visitors can access via Cedar Creek Road, approximately ten miles northwest of Gardiner.
Theodore Roosevelt and Marcellus Hartley Dodge Jr numbered among the notable guests who experienced the authentic ranch operations at this National Historic Place.
