Battle of the Little Bighorn, Battlefield in Montana, USA
The Battle of the Little Bighorn, also known as Custer's Last Stand, was an armed conflict between combined forces of Lakota, Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes against the 7th Cavalry Regiment of United States.
Fought in June 1876 during the Great Sioux War, it took place along the Little Bighorn River in eastern Montana Territory.
The battle has been depicted and immortalized in numerous books, film and art, making key figures like George Armstrong Custer culturally iconic.
Today, the battlefield is preserved as a U.S. National Monument complete with visitor center and museum.
It is one of the few historic battles where Native American forces overpowered U.S. Army.
