Snowden Bridge spans across the Missouri River with a total length of 3,257 feet, connecting the communities of Bainville and Fairview in Montana.
Built in 1913 by the Montana Eastern Railway, this vertical-lift bridge held the record as the longest of its type worldwide, measuring 1,159 feet in length.
The bridge represents the engineering innovation of the early 20th century, designed by John Alexander Low Waddell based on the South Halsted Street Bridge in Chicago.
The structure features a vertical lift mechanism that could raise 43 feet in thirty minutes, although the lift machinery was removed in 1943.
The construction cost of $465,367 in 1913 would equal more than 10 million dollars in current value.
