Yukon Legislative Building, Parliament building in downtown Whitehorse, Canada
The Yukon Legislative Building is a three-story structure with white steel cladding situated along the Yukon River beside Rotary Park in downtown Whitehorse. Inside are the legislative chambers and offices where territorial government business is conducted.
The territorial legislature was originally based in Dawson City from 1907 to 1953 before relocating to Whitehorse. The current building has served as the seat of government since 1976.
This building serves as the seat of territorial government where representatives gather to debate and make decisions affecting the Yukon. The legislative chambers reflect how public affairs are conducted in this northern region.
Visitors can join guided tours to view the legislative chambers and observe government operations firsthand. It is helpful to check beforehand when sessions or tours are available.
The building was officially named after Jim Smith in 2022, the longest-serving Commissioner of the territory. This honor recognizes a significant figure in Yukon's political history.
