Fort Assiniboine Sandhills Wildland Provincial Park

Fort Assiniboine Sandhills spans 7,903 hectares along the Athabasca River, featuring sand dunes covered by jack pine forests and diverse wetland environments.

The Klondike Trail, established between 1824 and 1825, served as a crucial portage route connecting Fort Edmonton to Fort Assiniboine through the current park territory.

The park contains remnants of the York Factory Express, a fur brigade route used by the Hudson's Bay Company linking Fort Vancouver to York Factory.

Visitors can access three staging areas for day use and engage in random backcountry camping throughout the park's extensive natural landscape.

The park houses over 435 plant species and provides habitat for great grey owls, Cooper's hawks, sandhill cranes, and numerous other wildlife species.
