In 1788, Charles Boyer of the North West Company established a fur trading post at the junction of Peace River and Boyer River. This early trading station laid the foundation for human settlement in the region.
The Peace River Pow Wow brings together communities each year to celebrate Indigenous traditions through dance, music, and ceremonial gatherings.
The area is accessible year-round and can be explored on foot. The former railway station from 1916 now serves as an information center, making it a good starting point for exploring the region.
The surrounding area is one of Canada's northernmost agricultural regions because of ice-free corridors and glacial lake sediments. These special conditions allow farming in what would otherwise be a colder climate.
