Notikewin Provincial Park

Notikewin Provincial Park spans 119 square kilometers along the Peace and Notikewin Rivers, featuring deep valleys that cut through northern Alberta's landscape.

The Hudson's Bay Company established Battle River House trading post upstream from the Notikewin River mouth in 1866, operating for three decades until floods erased its remains.

The park's name originates from the Cree word meaning battle, reflecting the territorial conflicts between Beaver and Cree tribes during the 1700s.

The park maintains 19 unserviced campsites at $20 per night, with facilities including washrooms, fish cleaning stations, and boat launch areas along the riverbank.

This northernmost provincial park in Alberta houses 26 mammal species and 200 bird species, including wolves, bears, sandhill cranes, and various raptor populations.
