Hudson's Bay Warehouse, Heritage warehouse in Old Town Yellowknife, Canada
Hudson's Bay Warehouse is a two-story building with metal cladding situated on the Back Bay waterfront in Old Town Yellowknife. The interior retains its original layout and features original doors and windows from when it was built.
The warehouse was built in 1945 to replace an earlier trading post destroyed by fire. It became essential for storing supplies that supported miners and trappers during the region's gold rush.
The warehouse represents how the Hudson's Bay Company shaped trade relationships in the North, bringing together indigenous traders, trappers, and merchants. Visitors can see how this location was central to commerce in the region's early development.
The building is located along Wiley Road near the waterfront and is easily reached on foot. Inside, floor markings show where different types of supplies were once stored during its operational years.
The warehouse operated until 1960 and forms part of a historic trio with the Canadian Pacific Float Base and Wildcat Café nearby. Together these three structures show how the waterfront developed in the town's early days.
