Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Catholic cathedral in Dodge City, Kansas
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a Catholic place of worship featuring an octagonal structure topped by a 77-foot (23 meter) bell tower. The exterior uses limestone from Arkansas City, while the interior holds white oak pews, a granite altar, and can accommodate 1,400 people during services.
This place of worship was created from the merger of Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Guadalupe parishes and was consecrated on December 9, 2001. The joining of two separate congregations marked a turning point for Catholic life in the city.
The cathedral incorporates soil from all parish churches within the diocese into its altar, creating a physical connection between scattered Catholic communities across the region. This practice reminds visitors of how parishes spread across the area are spiritually united in one place.
This building is straightforward to navigate with clear spaces for visitors attending services or looking around. The layout makes it easy to find your way and see the main features without confusion.
The interior features stations of the cross created by Colorado artist Hubero Maestas and a cathedra carved from Cuban mahogany. These carefully selected artistic pieces give the worship space distinctive character and craftsmanship.
