Lake Afton is a recreational park with 258 acres of water within 720 acres of grounds in Sedgwick County, Kansas. The site offers boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing, camping, and picnic areas for visitors to enjoy.
Construction of the lake began in 1939 through a federal work program and was completed after two years. The site opened to the public in 1945.
The Lake Afton Public Observatory offers astronomy programs and stargazing sessions for visitors interested in the night sky. People come here to explore constellations and planets through telescopes throughout the year.
The park has multiple entrances and clear pathways leading to water areas and picnic spots. A facility shop operates seasonally from April through October, stocking fishing supplies and camping gear.
