The Museum of Contemporary Art occupies Villa Ajavon, a 1922 building with beige facades and multiple openings across its different levels.
The Zinsou Foundation opened this first contemporary art museum in Africa on November 11, 2013, after completing the restoration of Villa Ajavon.
The museum exhibits works from thirteen artists across nine African nations, presenting diverse mediums including photography, paintings, sculptures, and installations.
The museum welcomes visitors six days per week with free admission, offering guided tours, an art shop, and dining facilities.
The collection features photographs by Malick Sidibé, including the 1974 work Les 3 apprentis fumeurs, alongside self-portraits by Samuel Fosso.
