Stavrovouni Monastery, Greek Orthodox monastery at Mount Stavrovouni, Cyprus
The stone monastery stands at the summit of a 2,460-foot mountain, offering views across the Larnaka region and Mediterranean Sea.
Saint Helena established this religious center in 327 AD and brought a fragment of the Holy Cross from Jerusalem to place within its walls.
The resident monks maintain traditional religious practices, including daily liturgies, icon painting, and the creation of religious manuscripts according to Orthodox customs.
Male visitors can access the monastery between 7:00 and 11:00, then 14:00 to 17:00 from September to March, with extended hours during summer months.
Following Mount Athos traditions, the monastery maintains a strict no-women policy, making it the only such religious institution in Cyprus.
