Southeast Aceh, Administrative regency in Aceh, Indonesia

Southeast Aceh spans across 4,242 square kilometers of land in Sumatra, featuring varied elevations that reach up to 1,474 meters above sea level.

The regency gained independence from Central Aceh in 1974, and later underwent territorial changes when its northern section formed the Gayo Lues Regency in 2002.

The Alas people constitute the native population of the region, maintaining their distinct language while coexisting with Gayo, Batak, Javanese, and Minangkabau communities.

The regional economy relies on agricultural production, with palm oil, cacao, coconut, coffee, nutmeg, walnut, and patchouli oil as principal commodities.

The Alas River and Butan River flow through the territory, creating natural boundaries between the sixteen administrative districts that compose the regency.
