Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park, National park in Gorontalo, Indonesia.
Bogani Nani Wartabone is a national park in Gorontalo covering vast forested terrain on the Minahassa Peninsula. The landscape contains dense rainforest with multiple rivers, mountain ranges, and diverse wildlife including rare bird species and mammals such as the maleo bird.
The park received its current name in 1991 as a tribute to Nani Wartabone, who fought against Japanese occupation during World War II. This naming honors her resistance efforts and significance to local history.
The Bolaang Mongondow Festival in March and Gorontalo Festival in May celebrate local traditions near the national park boundaries.
The park is accessed through Manado airport in the region, followed by a drive of roughly three hours to the main entrance near Toraut. Visitors should prepare for humid tropical conditions and bring sturdy footwear for forest trails.
The area contains several natural breeding sites at Hungoyono camp, where geothermal hot sand provides ideal conditions for the rare maleo bird to reproduce. These natural features make the location a vital refuge for this threatened species.
