Ambang

Ambang is an active volcano in Bolaang Mongondow Regency with a summit at approximately 1,800 meters elevation. The mountain features multiple craters and steaming vents that mark its volcanic terrain.

The volcano experienced a major eruption in the late 1800s and has shown periodic activity in more recent times. A phreatic eruption occurred in the early 2000s, demonstrating that the mountain remains geologically active.

Local communities live on the volcano's slopes and grow crops in the fertile volcanic soil that surrounds their homes. They have adapted their way of life to coexist with an active mountain that shapes their daily environment.

Visitors should hire local guides because the terrain is heavily forested and navigation requires local knowledge. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are essential for trekking through the thick vegetation.

Two active fumarole zones on the southwest side release white plumes of steam that rise visibly into the air. These natural vents reveal the ongoing geothermal activity happening beneath the volcano's surface.
