Bayan is a residential district in the southern part of Kuwait City, made up of 13 numbered blocks arranged around Bayan Palace, the official seat of government. The streets are wide and orderly, lined with villas and low-rise compounds set back from the road.
The name Bayan comes from an Arabic word meaning elevated, reflecting the area's slightly higher ground compared to nearby districts like Mishref and Salwa. The area developed into a residential zone during the rapid urban expansion Kuwait went through in the second half of the 20th century.
Bayan Palace serves as the setting for major national ceremonies and state gatherings throughout the year. The district holds official importance for the country as a place where significant events take place.

Nine water towers painted with white and blue vertical stripes stand scattered across the district and are one of the few features that immediately catch the eye when driving through. They give the area a look that is easy to remember and hard to confuse with anywhere else in the city.
