Al Farwaniyah Governorate, Residential governorate in Kuwait.
Al Farwaniyah is the most densely populated governorate in Kuwait, covering roughly 190 square kilometers in the northwestern part of the country. It contains nineteen distinct districts filled with apartment blocks, shopping areas, schools, and hospitals packed closely together.
This area was once sparsely settled, but transformed rapidly after Kuwait discovered oil in the 1930s. Growth accelerated sharply following independence in 1961, when construction of modern buildings and housing projects reshaped the entire region.
The nineteen districts here bring together Kuwaiti and international residents who keep their traditions alive through neighborhood markets and local festivals. Community life shapes how people move through and use these spaces daily.
The area is well-connected by buses and taxis that link the various districts to each other and to the rest of Kuwait. Shops, restaurants, and services are scattered throughout, making it easy to navigate and find what you need in most neighborhoods.
It is the only landlocked governorate in Kuwait and houses the country's main international airport within its borders. The airport has been central to the region's role in connecting Kuwait to the world during the country's development.
