H3, Archaeological excavation site in Subiya Region, Kuwait.
H3 is an archaeological excavation site in the Subiya region on a low peninsula north of Kuwait Bay. The location contains stone structures, scattered pottery fragments, and stone foundations that reveal early settlement patterns.
Excavations between 1998 and 2004 uncovered settlements from the Ubaid period, dating to around 5500-5324 BC. These discoveries represent some of the earliest known habitation in the northern Persian Gulf region.
Pottery styles and traded goods show how early communities from Mesopotamia and Arabia came into contact here. This mixing of cultural influences is visible in the objects scattered across the site.
The site is best visited during the cooler winter months when summer heat makes exploration difficult. Visitors should prepare for uneven terrain and wear sturdy footwear to navigate the ground safely.
A ceramic boat model and bitumen pieces found here represent some of the oldest evidence of seafaring in West Asia. These discoveries suggest that maritime activities began here thousands of years earlier than elsewhere in the region.
