Green Island, Artificial island off Kuwait City Corniche, Kuwait
Green Island is an artificial island off Kuwait City's coast with landscaped gardens, paved pathways, and recreational areas spread throughout its grounds. The space includes open areas for walking, cycling, and enjoying views of the Gulf.
The island was constructed and opened in 1988 as the first artificial island development in the entire Persian Gulf region. This marked a new direction for Kuwait's approach to coastal development and public recreation.
The amphitheater on the island once hosted concerts and cultural events for the public. It reflects how important outdoor performance spaces have become for Kuwait City's entertainment scene.
The main entrance is located on Arabian Gulf Street in the Dasman area, where bicycle rentals are available for getting around. Plan enough time to explore the different zones on foot or by bike at a leisurely pace.
In 2023, the island hosted a spectacular drone display using 2,000 aircraft to create patterns showing Kuwait's past, present, and future. This event demonstrated the use of cutting-edge technology for large-scale public entertainment.
