Sapo National Park, National park in Sinoe County, Liberia.
The protected area encompasses 1,804 square kilometers of primary tropical rainforest within the Upper Guinean forest ecosystem of southwestern Liberia.
The Forestry Development Authority established Sapo National Park in 1983, making it the first designated national park in Liberia.
The indigenous Sapo people maintain a traditional practice of not hunting chimpanzees due to their cultural significance in the region.
Access to the park requires prior authorization from the Forestry Development Authority, and visitors can only enter the protected area on foot.
The national park contains the second largest area of primary tropical rainforest in West Africa, following Tai National Park in Côte d'Ivoire.
