Dreitorspitze

Dreitorspitze is a multi-peaked mountain in the Wetterstein range straddling Bavaria and Tyrol, with several distinct summits of varying elevations. The massif displays steep rock faces and clear ridge formations that guide visitors through its terrain.

The massif saw its first ascents during the mid-1800s as mountaineers began exploring the Wetterstein range systematically. These early climbing expeditions established the mountain as a destination in the history of Alpine mountaineering.

The mountain marks the geographical transition where the Wetterstein range shifts from its east-west orientation to a northern direction before returning to its main axis.

The mountain suits experienced mountaineers with climbing skills, and nearby mountain huts serve as bases for multi-day excursions. Good weather conditions and proper gear are important since conditions at elevation can change rapidly.

The eastern side contains an extensive karst plateau with sinkholes and underground water drainage, revealing the geological distinctiveness of this mountain region. This hidden water system beneath the plateau creates a largely unseen dimension of the landscape.
