Wiss Platte, Mountain summit in Rätikon range, Austria and Switzerland
Wiss Platte is a mountain summit in the Rätikon range at 2,630 meters elevation, situated between Austria and Switzerland. The peak has flat, karst-covered walls facing north and east, while the western and southern sides are steep and deeply carved.
During the 19th century, local hunters from the northeastern region likely made the first ascents of the summit, though no official records document these early climbs. These early visits reflect the history of alpine exploration in this border region.
The mountain sits between the Austrian town of Tschagguns in Montafon Valley and the Swiss village of St. Antönien, forming a natural boundary between the two countries. This location makes it a place where two different regions and their landscapes meet.
The standard route starts from Tilisuna Hut and climbs steep rocky terrain, taking about 90 minutes to reach the top. Climbers need solid mountain skills and some climbing experience to navigate this approach safely.
The western and southern terrain offers technical climbing routes with varying difficulty levels, from moderate to very challenging. The transition from Scheienfluh showcases this variety particularly well and attracts experienced climbers.
