Villa Hohe Warte, Municipal orphanage in Döbling, Austria
Villa Hohe Warte is a six-story building with east and west wings situated on extensive grounds in the Döbling district. The structure houses multiple residential units of varying sizes and was designed to serve as a care facility for children.
The City of Vienna built this structure in 1907 as its sixth municipal care facility for children. It represents an important expansion of public welfare services in the city during the early 20th century.
After World War II, a Swedish aid organization ran the facility to house young children in need of care. The place reflected a commitment to providing shelter for vulnerable children during difficult times.
The grounds feature parks, sports facilities, and parking areas that make it a complete complex. The location sits within an established residential area accessible by public transportation.
The building sold for 21 million euros in 2013 and now houses China's Permanent Mission to the United Nations. It evolved from serving vulnerable children to serving as a center for international diplomacy.
