Kattowitzer Hütte, Alpine club hut in Malta, Austria
The Kattowitzer Hütte is a mountain refuge in the Ankogel group situated at 2320 meters elevation, providing shelter for climbers and hikers. The hut contains 19 beds in shared rooms and 30 mattress spaces for overnight stays.
The refuge was built in 1929 by the Kattowitz section of the German Alpine Club and has served as a base for mountaineers crossing this region ever since. Its long history of operation demonstrates its importance as a reliable staging point for alpine expeditions.
The family running the hut prepares traditional alpine meals using local ingredients and recipes passed down through generations. Visitors gather here after their climbs to share experiences and stories of the mountain.
The hut operates regularly from June to September and visitors should reserve their sleeping space in advance. Winter emergency spaces are available for unexpected situations but require prior arrangement.
The location provides direct access to climbing routes leading to Großer Hafner at 3076 meters and Malteiner Sonnblick at 3030 meters. These two peaks are popular destinations for climbers who launch their expeditions from this base camp.
