Neue Magdeburger Hütte, Mountain hut in Karwendel Mountains, Tyrol.
Neue Magdeburger Hütte is a mountain hut located at 1637 meters elevation in the Karwendel Mountains, offering lodging and meals for hikers. The refuge sits near the Martinsbergalm region and is accessible by several established walking routes.
The building started as the Solstein Hütte hunting lodge before the Geltendorf Section of the German Alpine Club transformed it into the current mountain refuge. This change opened the site to hikers and mountaineers rather than hunters.
The hut draws together hikers and mountain climbers who gather to share meals and stories during their Alpine journeys. It helps keep alive the traditions of mountain living by serving regional food and welcoming visitors into a space rooted in local practice.
The easiest walking route departs from Zirl along the Hüttenweg trail and takes roughly three and a half hours to reach the hut. Other routes are available as alternatives depending on your fitness and available time.
The refuge earned an Environmental Seal of Approval in 2019 for implementing sustainable practices like energy efficiency and waste management. This reflects a deliberate commitment to protecting the mountain environment.
