Plumsjochhütte, Mountain hut in Karwendel Nature Park, Austria.
The Plumsjochhütte is a mountain hut in Karwendel Nature Park in Tyrol, Austria, sitting on the Plumsjoch at around 1,630 m (5,350 ft). It offers sleeping places in private rooms and dormitories, along with basic catering for hikers passing through.
The Plumsjoch was a used crossing in the Karwendel mountains long before the current building existed, connecting old paths through the range. The hut took shape during the 20th century as hiking in the Alps grew in popularity and demand for shelter on these routes increased.
The hut sits along a crossing route that connects Achensee and Ahornboden, and hikers today still use it as a natural stopping point on the way. The kitchen serves simple Tyrolean dishes that have been a staple of mountain huts in this part of Tyrol for generations.
The hut is open from May to October and can be reached by a roughly 1.5-hour hike from Gernalm near Pertisau. Sturdy footwear and weatherproof clothing are a good idea, as conditions at this elevation can change fast.
The hut has a dedicated bicycle storage room and an e-bike charging station powered by an independent energy system. Having this kind of setup at this elevation is rare, and it makes the hut a practical stop for mountain bikers as well as hikers.
