Warnsdorfer Hütte, Mountain shelter in Krimml, Austria
The Warnsdorfer Hütte is a mountain lodge situated in the Venediger Group of the Hohe Tauern range at roughly 2336 meters elevation. The building provides sleeping quarters and meals for hikers and climbers working through this high alpine terrain.
The lodge was founded in 1897 by the Austrian Alpine Association as a base for exploring the western Venediger area. It developed into an important stopping point for mountaineers navigating the high alpine passes and summits of the region.
The hut serves as a gathering place where mountaineers share knowledge and traditions of alpine climbing. Visitors experience the social rhythm of mountain life, with meals and evening conversations that connect people to the region's climbing heritage.
Access is via a trail from Krimmler Tauernhaus that takes several hours and requires solid mountain gear. A cable system for carrying supplies operates during summer months, helping reduce the weight hikers must carry themselves.
The lodge received environmental certification in the late 1990s for its sustainable practices in the alpine setting. An indoor climbing wall allows mountaineers to train and practice during storms and poor weather days.
