Zillergründl Dam, Arch dam in Zillertal Alps, Austria
The Zillergründl Dam rises 186 meters high and stretches 502 meters across the Ziller River at an elevation of 1,787 meters in North Tyrol.
The construction of this hydroelectric facility commenced in 1981 as part of the Zemm-Ziller Development project and reached completion in 1986.
The surrounding Zillergrund valley maintains traditional Alpine pastures where local farmers continue centuries-old agricultural practices throughout the seasons.
Visitors can access the dam via a toll road from the Nature Park's Maurach parking lot to Bärenbad, with regular bus services available.
The dam creates a reservoir holding 89.5 million cubic meters of water, powering the Häusling Power Plant through a 744-meter vertical drop.
