Steinmandl, Mountain summit in Vorarlberg, Austria
Steinmandl is a mountain summit in the Allgäu Alps reaching 1982 meters with steep slopes descending toward the Schrecksbach valley. The peak is accessible through several routes that wind across its rocky terrain.
The summit received a new wooden cross in September 2011 after lightning destroyed the original structure that had stood there. Students from a technical school in Stuttgart carried out this restoration work.
The mountain location marks the intersection of three municipalities: Mittelberg, Bezau, and Schoppernau, reflecting the regional administrative divisions of Vorarlberg.
The Schwarzwasserhütte mountain lodge sits at 1620 meters and serves as the usual starting point for climbers. Routes from there lead to the summit with varying difficulty levels.
The mountain is composed of Flysch rock layers from the Üntschendecke, an old geological formation containing marine fossils. A plateau spreads across its northwestern section where several small streams meet.
