Ateshgah of Baku, Fire temple in Surakhany, Baku, Azerbaijan

The pentagonal complex features a central altar surrounded by twenty-four cells arranged within stone walls topped with battlements.

The temple construction occurred between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, with the central section completed in 1810 by merchant Kantchanagar.

The inner walls contain Sanskrit and Persian inscriptions dating from 1745, indicating the presence of Hindu, Sikh, and Zoroastrian worshippers.

Located 30 kilometers from central Baku, the temple functions as a museum since 1975 and accepts visitors throughout the year.

The natural eternal flame that burned for centuries extinguished in 1969 due to gas exploitation but now operates through piped gas.
