Salyan District, Administrative district in eastern Azerbaijan
Salyan is an administrative district in eastern Azerbaijan with a capital city serving as the regional center. The area includes several rural and urban settlements spread across a landscape with flat and gently rolling terrain.
The area was established as an administrative district in 1930 and remained part of the Soviet Union for six decades. It became part of independent Azerbaijan following the collapse of the Soviet system in 1991.
Agriculture shapes the daily life here, with fields of grain and cotton visible across the landscape. Local communities depend on farming and food processing traditions that have defined this region for generations.
Spring and autumn offer the best conditions for visiting, with pleasant weather and visible agricultural activity throughout the region. The district is accessible by public transport and offers lodging and dining options in the main city.
The district contains several mud volcanoes, a rare geological feature found in this part of the region. Mineral-rich mud from these formations has been used by local people for therapeutic purposes over time.
