Stepanakert Stadium, Football stadium in Stepanakert, Azerbaijan.
Stepanakert Stadium is a football ground in the city of Stepanakert, Azerbaijan, with an artificial turf pitch and covered stands on several sides. The ground holds around 12,000 spectators and is equipped for competitive matches at a regional level.
The ground was built in 1956 during the Soviet era and originally carried the name of Joseph Stalin before being renamed several times over the following decades. Each change of name reflected a shift in the political situation that shaped this part of the region.
The stadium is the home ground of FC Qarabağ Xankəndi and draws crowds from across the city and the surrounding region on match days. The stands fill with local supporters who treat the games as a regular part of community life.
The ground sits along one of the main roads in the city and is easy to find whether you are arriving on foot, by car, or by local transport. Visiting on a match day is the best way to see it in full use, as it tends to be quiet at other times.
When the ground was renovated in 2004 and the natural grass was replaced with artificial turf, the original Soviet-era grandstand structure was kept in place. This makes it one of the few grounds in the region where Soviet architecture and modern playing conditions exist side by side.
