Goranboy is an administrative district in western Azerbaijan covering approximately 1,760 square kilometers at around 340 meters elevation. The area contains numerous villages and settlements scattered across a landscape shaped by agriculture and traditional land use.
The district was established in 1930 during the Soviet period under the name Gasim Ismailov District and renamed to its current name in 1991. This change occurred as Azerbaijan transitioned to independence following the end of Soviet rule.
