Mausoleum of Sheikh Juneyd, Islamic mausoleum in Hazra village, Qusar District, Azerbaijan.
The Mausoleum of Sheikh Juneyd is a square brick structure with four entrance points and corner rooms beneath a central dome featuring stalactite-like decorative patterns. Large niche-portals at each entry, roughly 3 meters deep, allow visitors to approach from multiple directions.
Sheikh Juneyd died in battle against Khalilullah's forces in 1456, prompting the construction of this memorial. The structure was completed under Shah Tahmasp I during the 16th century.
The interior displays traditional Islamic tile work in blue and dark violet with geometric patterns that reflect the artistic preferences of the period. These decorative choices show how people of that era expressed their faith through color and design.
The structure can be entered from multiple sides, offering flexible viewing routes. Wear comfortable shoes as floors inside may be uneven and you will want to explore the interior fully.
A hidden staircase inside leads up to the dome, revealing an unexpected upper level of the structure. The northern section bears traces of later renovations that altered the original design.
