Sakinakhanim Mosque, Islamic mosque in Guba, Azerbaijan
Sakinakhanim Mosque is a brick building with a cylindrical form and semi-circular windows set into each wall. A dome crowns the roof while four large columns support the interior space.
The building was constructed in 1854 by Sakina Bakikhanova as a memorial to Abbasgulu Bakikhanov. During the Soviet period it was repurposed as a warehouse before returning to religious use in 1992.
The name honors Sakina Bakikhanova, who commissioned the building as a memorial to a family member. The Arabic and Persian inscriptions above the entrance reveal the Islamic character of this place to visitors today.
The building sits in central Guba and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should wear modest clothing and be aware this is an active place of worship where prayer times are observed.
A teaching school attached to the mosque has operated since 1994, blending prayer and education in one location. This pairing makes the site a hub for both spiritual and academic life.
