Afurja Waterfall

Afurja Waterfall, Natural waterfall in Guba District, Azerbaijan.

Afurja Waterfall is a multi-tiered water feature in Guba District that drops approximately 60 meters through limestone formations before flowing into the Velvelechay River. The cascading structure is created by water passing through different layers of rock.

The waterfall was shaped during the Jurassic period when limestone deposits surfaced and began to define the geological character of the Guba region. The rock formations have been continuously modified by water erosion over millions of years.

The waterfall serves as a gathering place where locals come together during celebrations and festivals throughout the year. It holds meaning as a natural landmark where community life intersects with the landscape.

The site is best visited between April and October when weather conditions are favorable and hiking paths remain safe to traverse. This season offers the clearest views and most accessible conditions for exploring the area.

The canyon walls surrounding the waterfall display distinct geological layers that have been exposed through millions of years of natural erosion. These visible strata reveal how the rock formations evolved over deep time.
