Badanj Cave

Badanj Cave is a limestone shelter located beneath a cliff overlooking the Bregava River on its right bank. The rock overhang created a natural refuge where early people lived and left behind evidence of their daily activities.

Scientific excavations from 1976 to 1979 revealed that people occupied the site between 14,000 and 18,000 years ago. Later groups returned to use the shelter between 13,000 and 12,000 years ago.

The cave displays a stone carving showing a horse struck by arrows. This type of artwork was how Stone Age people recorded their hunting experiences.

A walking trail with handrails provides safe and easy access to the cave entrance. A picnic area below offers good views of the surrounding landscape and serves as a comfortable rest spot.

The layers within the rock shelter contain stacked sediments from different time periods, forming a kind of geological record book. Archaeologists used these layers to trace how people returned to the same spot repeatedly over thousands of years.
