Hotel Europe, hotel in Sarajevo
Hotel Europe is a large building in Sarajevo established in 1882 and originally designed by Karl Paržik, combining Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau architectural styles. The structure holds over 160 rooms and 14 suites furnished with a blend of traditional and contemporary furnishings, along with a spa center, indoor pool, and restaurant facilities.
Hotel Europe was founded in 1882 as Sarajevo's first hotel, representing the city's modernization efforts during that era. The building underwent comprehensive renovation in 2008, preserving its historic character while integrating modern amenities for contemporary guests.
Hotel Europe stands at the meeting point of Sarajevo's eastern and western halves, positioned near the entrance to Baščaršija, the old city center. Walking through the area, visitors naturally encounter a layering of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, and modern architecture that reflects the city's complex identity.
The hotel operates a 24-hour front desk, offers on-site parking, and provides free WiFi throughout all public areas and guest rooms. Staff members speak multiple languages including English, Turkish, German, and Arabic, ensuring assistance for visitors from different backgrounds.
Beneath the hotel's courtyard lie remains of an ancient Ottoman caravanserai called Tašlihan from the 15th century. This archaeological layer beneath the modern structure means visitors unknowingly walk over several centuries of history when they stay at this location.
