Ovčiji Brod, Stone arch bridge in Bratač, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ovčiji Brod is a stone arch bridge located in Bratač that crosses the Zalomka River. It features three arches supported by two piers and forms a simple but solid passageway over the water.
The bridge was built in the 16th century during Ottoman rule in the region. Maintenance work took place in 1883 to preserve its structure.
The name means Sheep Crossing, reflecting how shepherds once used this route to move their flocks between different grazing areas in the region.
Access is through narrow gravel roads without signs located between Gacko and Nevesinje. Visitors should allow extra time for the drive and use a vehicle suited to rough terrain.
During the warm months, the Zalomka River flows underground in parts and becomes one of the largest sinking rivers in Europe. This seasonal shift shapes the landscape and reveals the geological uniqueness of the area.
