Bangladesh Scouts, National Scout Organization of Bangladesh
Bangladesh Scouts is the national scouting organization based in Dhaka that trains young people in teamwork, leadership and practical skills. The organization divides members into three age groups: Cub Scouts for children aged six to ten, Scouts for teenagers aged eleven to sixteen, and Rover Scouts for young adults aged seventeen to twenty-five.
The organization started in 1948 as the East Bengal Scout Association and took its current form in 1972 after Bangladesh gained independence, becoming Bangladesh Scouts Samity. The World Scout Organization recognized it as its 105th member in 1974.
The name Bangladesh Scouts connects the organization to the global scouting movement, visible in the uniforms and symbols throughout the headquarters. Members follow their own code and promises that shape how they work together and serve their community.
Visitors can see the Scout Bhavan headquarters in Dhaka and watch regular meetings, training sessions and preparations for camps throughout the year. The location has clear signage and displays that invite young people to join scouting activities.
Membership grew from just a few thousand to over one million by 2010, making Bangladesh Scouts the fifth largest scouting organization in the world. This rapid growth reflects how deeply young people in the country embraced the program.
